Did you know a "Wheel Alignment" is a great deal? A modern four-wheel alignment machine costs more than $30,000 for cars and light pickups! Why so expensive? The machine measures within 1/10th of a degree on each wheel. The tolerance is so close due to the complicated dynamics of each wheel's "attack angle" to the road.
Remember alsp, every person or heavy package changes the tires three angles to the road. Typically, all four wheels can be aligned on front-wheel drive vehicles. The necessary adjustments often add more expense. And, as in all automotive, there is an expense in updating the alignment specifications. Of course, specifications are stored for the older vehicles!
We continue: the machine's "attachments to the wheel" must adjust to wheel sizes as small as 13 inches to sometimes bigger than 20 inches. And as expected, the machine's sensors must be calibrated periodically.
Another "must-have" is the qualified Technician who understands the machine, your vehicle, and how to make the needed adjustments and/or needed parts, etc. And remember the steering wheel is kept straight when adjustments are performed. If your vehicle is returned without the steering wheel straight; test drive your ride on different roads before returning to the alignment shop. As you are aware, different road conditions will affect the steering wheel position.
