Upper Cylinder Lubrication is not a new issue with engines. At one time, tetraethyl lead was added to gasoline to lubricate the upper parts of the cylinder above the piston rings, prevent premature wear on metal parts, and improve performance.
The environmental issues caused the lead removal, but later on, ethanol was added to gasoline. If you remember, we once added ethanol to rid the gas of water in the tank. Now, the ethanol is at a much higher percentage in the gas in every tank. Since ethanol attracts water, there is no real problem in your tank. Still, when you shut your vehicle down, some of the intake valves are left open to the air, which allows moist air to enter the cylinders, creating rust and corrosion, and there is still a lack of lubrication the lead provided.
Amsoil Upper Cylinder Lubricant does much more than tetraethyl lead. Amsoil upper cylinder lubricant is still a fuel additive whose primary function is to lubricate the upper parts of the cylinder above the piston rings. But also clean and lubricate the fuel injectors, protect the valve train and prevent carbon buildup on the pistons. To learn more, follow the link below:
